Is Purple on track to become pickleball's new "Black"?

Why Are So Many Pickleball Brands Going Purple?

From lavender and lilac to violet and deep purple, paddle brands across the industry seem to be arriving at the same color at the same time. Coincidence? Maybe not.

If you have shopped for a new paddle lately, you have probably noticed the same thing we have: purple is everywhere. From carbon fiber faces to foam cores, purple pickleball paddles have become one of the most common colorways on the market in 2026. Here is why.

Purple Sits Between Two of Pickleball's Favorite Colors

Pickleball's color palette has always leaned toward high contrast, energetic tones: electric blue, hot pink, lime green. Purple works because it borrows a little of each. It reads as bold on the court under stadium lighting, but it does not compete visually with the ball the way neon green or yellow can. That balance is a big reason purple pickleball paddle designs keep showing up across so many brands, from widebody shapes to elongated designs.

It Photographs and Prints Well

Purple carbon fiber paddles and purple foam core paddles both hold up under different finishes, whether that is a matte carbon face, a gritty spin surface, or a glossy hybrid layer. For brands producing signature paddle lines and limited colorway releases, purple gives designers a wide range to work with, from deep plum and violet to lighter lavender accents, without losing brand consistency across a paddle collection.

Purple Is Gender Neutral on the Court

Unlike pink or baby blue, purple does not get filed into a "for her" or "for him" category the way older sporting goods color codes did. That matters in a sport like pickleball, where paddles are shared across a household, passed between a parent and a teenager, or picked up by a mixed doubles team. A purple pickleball paddle fits that flexibility, which is likely one reason it shows up so often in family-oriented and multi-generational paddle lines.

Limited Colorways Create Urgency Around a Timeless Color

Many of the purple paddles on the market right now are not a brand's core, always-in-stock color. They are limited or seasonal colorway releases: a violet edition of an existing paddle shape, a purple clearance run, or a one-off signature colorway. Because purple already reads as premium and a little rare compared to standard black or navy paddles, it is a natural choice when a brand wants a colorway release to feel special without changing the paddle's actual performance specs.

So, Why Not Purple?

The honest answer is there is not a strong reason to skip it. Purple pickleball paddles perform exactly like their other colorway counterparts. The paddle face material, core thickness, and swing weight are what determine performance, not the color on top. If a purple paddle catches your eye and the specs fit your game, the color is simply a bonus.

What Do You Think?

Purple is clearly having a moment in pickleball, but the bigger question is whether it is here to stay.

Are you seeing more purple paddles on the courts where you play? Would color ever influence which paddle you choose, or is performance the only thing that matters?
